There are more obvious battlefields, such as the job market, the commercial “territories”, the business, academic and scientific competition, the parliamentary arenas of political disputes and the intricate litigations of the legal sphere.
However, if we sharpen our perception, we will notice that, from the court to the tatamis, from the confrontations between coworkers to the distressing conjugal and familial struggles, the battles and the spirit of fight are manifested in all spheres of life. To be aware of it is extremely relevant to survive and even, paradoxically, enjoy relative peace and harmony in interpersonal relationships.
It was not by a chance that the Christ-Verb asserted that He would send His disciples as sheep among wolves, and that He came to Earth to bring the sword and not peace, the sword of intensification of the evolutionary conflicts, catalytic Angel of human progress as He was, as He is! (Matthew, 10:16 and 34)
Jesus also taught us to be attentive, in the sentence “watch and pray, so that you will not fall into temptation.” And, more categorical in this approach, the Teacher further asserted: “Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)
Spirituality does not consort with naivety and stupidity. Only with intelligence and clear discernment of evil, it is possible to live, with responsibility and greater probability to succeed, the pursuit of transcendentality, which is a high-level accomplishment and not a low-level one, sophisticated and not primitive, both in the moral and intellectual senses.
Thus we will, more easily, understand the importance of triumphing in the most elementary and serious (even in terms of consequences) battlefield: that of one’s own inner world.
We must be on guard against agents of sabotage and pernicious forces contrary to the development of our human condition, in the sure victory war of the spiritual advancement, in the course of centuries, with a trajectory of losses and gains, much more compensatory and less winding, the more we strive to favor the natural and divine flow that is intrinsic to us, towards ascesis.
